The roots of justice

I read something today that made an interesting link between equality and justice. It suggested that a foundation of our work for justice is the fundamental belief in the equal value of all humans. Paul's comment about there being neither Greek nor Jew, male nor female, slave nor free in Christ is often quoted in this regard. Our essential worth as human beings is not based upon our race, gender or socio-economic position - or any other external judgement.

However, it's not good enough to ascribe a theoretical value to people that is not reflected in the everday realities of their lives. This is why we need to be committed to doing justice, making a difference in the world, so that those who live under oppression have an opportunity to experience liberation and all may share the chance to fulfill their human potential.
