Zambian funeral

One of the most special experiences from the recent Zambian trip was the opportunity to attend a funeral. Something like 400 people gathered together on a hilltop to remember, mourn and celebrate the life of a man who was only a few years older than me when he died. The funeral was lead by Salvation Army officers and though none of it was in English, I was deeply moved by the tangible presence of God in our midst. All of these people gathered together with a single purpose had a profound affect upon me as they sang, spoke and prayed together. Though I had not known the man who died, his presence lived on amongst everyone who was there on that day. It has been said that if God is truly everywhere and eternal, then we all live in God and die into God - on this day, that certainly seemed to be a shared blessing for those who attended.
