This morning started in the freezing cold collecting for the Red Shield Appeal at an intersection in our region. I don't think it was until after the third hour that my hands finally began to thaw out. I can't honestly say that I enjoy the experience but I do like the way that it brings people together for a common cause - rank or position mean nothing when one is shaking a tin on the intersections. The reaction from the general public is also nearly universally positive. Sure, there are a few who desperately try to avoid your gaze but they are more than made up for by the many who give generously without hesitation.
